Vin Diesel Dodges Inhumans Casting Question

It has long been rumoured that voicing Groot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ might not be the extent of Vin Diesel’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Prior to Josh Brolin’s casting as Thanos, there had been speculation that Diesel might have been in line to play the cosmic tyrant set to be the uber-villain of ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ However, there has also been talk that Diesel might be up for a key role in ‘The Inhumans,’ as the lead Inhuman Black Bolt.

The actor himself has been known to drop hints on the matter, most notably posting an image late last year on his Facebook page with the words “are you inhuman?”

As well as being a clear nod to ‘The Inhumans,’ this move also recalled how Diesel had previously posted an image of Groot on his page in 2013 - the first hint that he was in line for that role.

However, if Diesel is indeed attached to ‘The Inhumans,’ the man himself is confirming nothing just yet - though he certainly isn’t denying it either.

Asked as an opening question by MTV whether he had a role in ‘The Inhumans,’ Diesel laughed, “Wow. Right for the jugular. You see, Marvel? They ask me these questions!

“You know, I enjoyed the experience of playing Groot. A lot of it was the great cast, and the genius of James Gunn. But I also enjoyed, you know, entering into the Marvel world. And… good things will come from that.”

Pretty much the perfect response to a Marvel movie question: nothing verified either way, but just enough implied to keep us eager to hear more.

Diesel went on to express pride in the MTV Movie Award nominations ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has garnered:

“To think that I’m nominated for best duo, again this year, as a tree [laughs] is pretty outrageous, especially since Paul [Walker] and I won best duo in 2002, when the MTV audience was the first to embrace [the “Fast & Furious”] saga. It was really was. It was the MTV audience that said, ‘this is important.’ And they’ve been loyal ever since to the point, just last year we won best duo again, 12 years apart.”

Diesel had little to reveal about plans for the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel: “I know James Gunn is very excited and he’s working on it right now. He’s very excited about what Groot will do in the 2017 movie.”

And as ‘The Inhumans’ isn’t due until November 2018, it could conceivably be some time before any casting decisions are made - or publicly revealed, at least.

That said, with the mythology of the the Inhumans slowly being introduced to the MCU via TV’s ‘Agents of SHIELD,’ and almost certainly set to be explored further in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ it also seems feasible that the key Inhumans may make their presence felt sooner rather than later.

Whether or not this will involve Diesel, we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, the actor will next be seen in ‘Fast & Furious 7,’ opening 3 April.

As for the MCU, that continues with ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ hitting screens on  23 April.
