Which New Dinosaurs Will Appear In Jurassic World?

image

If rumours are to be believed, the first trailer for ‘Jurassic World’ – the movie formerly known as ‘Jurassic Park 4’ – will be released before the end of the month, and we’re very excited about this news.

But what will we see in the first trailer?

Obviously, dinosaurs are a total no-brainer.

We also think it’s safe to assume we’ll get a look at the film’s stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Judy Greer.

We’re also guessing that - to paraphrase Jeff Goldblum’s chaotician Ian Malcolm - there will probably be some “running and screaming” from the aforementioned dinosaurs.

But which dinosaurs from the previous films will we see return for ‘Jurassic World’ and which new creatures will be added to the mix?

Here’s what we know about the real stars of ‘Jurassic World’ so far…

D-Rex

image

‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow confirmed that new species of dinosaurs have been created for the fourth film in the franchise.

“There will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists,” he told Slash Film back in May.

“This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.”

Fan forums have suggested this new beast is a T-Rex hybrid known as Diabolus Rex, or D-Rex to its friends, and that it will be larger and more ferocious than its tiny-armed cousin.

New photos purporting to be from the ‘Jurassic World’ LEGO set show the D-Rex is very much like a T-Rex, but pale-skinned, red-eyed, and with much longer, more effective forearms.

Scary.

Mosasaurus

image

Technically, a mososaur isn’t really a dinosaur, it’s actually a marine reptile, but let’s not split hairs.

This swimming beast, which is akin to a giant flippered crocodile, was confirmed to appear in ‘Jurassic World’ by a resort map leaked from the set. Early reports suggest we’ll see huge “Seaworld” style shows where great white sharks are fed to the mosasaur in a huge arena.

We bet they get to eat a few pesky humans too.

Baryonyx

This fish-eating beast was outed by the leaked ‘Jurassic World’ brochure. Little is known about the role it’ll play in the final film, but we’re guessing it’s only a small part.

Dimorphodon

This is the second flying dino (technically it’s a pterosaur, not a dinosaur) we’ll see in the ‘Jurassic Park’ films, joining the pteradons that were glimpsed briefly in ‘The Lost World’, before they made their terrifying full-blown debut in ‘III’.

They’ll be found flying around in the ‘Jurassic World’ aviary.

Edmontosaurus

The duck-billed herbivore is unlikely to play a major role in ‘World’ as it sounds pretty wussy.

Metriacanthosaurus

image

This mid-sized carnivore was first spotted in the first ‘Jurassic Park’, but only as a vial of DNA stolen by Dennis Nedry. We’re hoping it has a bigger role this time around as it looks like a total badass.

Microceratus

This little cutie pie appeared in Michael Crichton’s original novel and now it looks set to make its movie debut in ‘World’, we’re guessing in the petting zoo, as it’s only 2 foot long.
