Live-action Winnie The Pooh Is In The Works

Disney are set to begin work on a new ‘Winnie the Pooh’ film, and — get this — it’s going to be live-action, not animation.

According to reports, the Mouse House are in the early stages of bringing Pooh bear to life, which follows on from a long list of recent announcements for other adaptations such as ‘Dumbo’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Their latest reboot, ‘Pete’s Dragon’, which blends live-action and CG animation, is about to tie up its shoot, so seems like Disney are poised to cash-in on yet more of their beloved classics by bringing Pooh bear into the real world. Exactly how it’ll materialise isn’t yet clear, but will likely explore similar options to the recent (and well-received) ‘Paddington’ film.

Alex Ross Perry has been signed up to write a story that’s in the early stages of its development. Word is that Christopher Robin will, now as an adult, revisit Pooh and the gang in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Over the years there have been a number of movies released starring Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and co., with the latest being ‘Winnie the Pooh’ in 2011. ‘Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree’ was the first way back in 1966, followed by ‘Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day’ two years later — both were just 25 minutes long. 1977 saw ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’, with a number of TV shows and other movies along the way.

‘The Tigger Movie’ in 2000 and ‘Piglet’s Big Movie’ is 2003 pleased fans for their quaint, family-friendly adventures, so hopefully this live-action adaptation won’t lose any of the magic synonymous with the world and characters from our childhood.

The idea of Christopher Robin being grown-up will be an interesting move in terms of the dynamics and character relationships, because the anthropomorphised inhabitants work well with the willingness of the youngster’s imagination, but time will tell once we get more info.
