Mariel Hemingway, the young actress who played Woody Allen’s teenage girlfriend Tracy in ‘Manhattan’, says she had to rebuff the director’s romantic advances after shooting the film.

Hemingway, who was 17 at the time of making ‘Manhattan’, says Allen flew to her parents home in Idaho in his private jet to propose a short holiday in Paris. She had recently turned 18, while Allen was in his mid-forties.

“Our relationship was platonic, but I started to see that he had a kind of crush on me,” Hemingway writes in an excerpt from her new autobiography on Fox News, “Though I dismissed it as the kind of thing that seemed to happen any time middle-aged men got around young women.”

Hemingway, who admits she’d been “embarrassed” by the sex talk in ‘Manhattan’, says the director’s proposition made her nervous as there was no mention of having separate rooms on the trip. She expected her parents to refuse his offer, but instead, they encouraged it.

She awoke in the night “with the certain knowledge that I was an idiot. No one was going to get their own room. His plan, such as it was, involved being with me.”

She then woke the celebrated filmmaker and told him she couldn’t go to Paris, saying “I’m not going to get my own room, am I?”

Allen’s said to have summoned his private plane in the morning and left the family home.

The 79-year-old director’s private life has been much cause of controversy in the past. His relationship with Mia Farrow broke down in 1992 when she discovered nude photos of her adopted 20-year-old daughter Soon-Yi Previn.

Allen later married Previn in 1997, with the filmmaker saying, ”The heart wants what it wants. There’s no logic to those things. You meet someone and you fall in love, and that’s that.”

‘Out Came The Sun’ by Mariel Hemingway will be released later this year.
