World War Z 2 Gets A Release Date

After the success of 2013′s ‘World War Z’, the inevitable sequel has been green lit for a 2017 release.

‘World War Z’, starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster (’Quantum of Solace’), earned an impressive $540 million at the worldwide box office. Considering the production was hampered from start to finish, the end product turned out surprisingly well.

Juan Antonio Bayona (’The Impossible’) is set to assume directing duties for the sequel as Brad Pitt reprises his role as Gerry.

The follow-up’s also set for a new writer, with Stephen Knight (’Locke’) taking over from Matthew Michael Carahan, Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof.

‘World War Z 2′ – which isn’t likely to stick as its official title – will still be based around the book by acclaimed zombie author Max Brooks. However, loosely based seems a better term because the first film didn’t really reflect the structure or content of the book, which, in literary form, was broken up into different stories from different people all around the world. The new story will follow on from the film adaptation, so looks like the only similarity between tis and the book is the title.

There’s every season to anticipate the next instalment of ‘World War Z’, after the first was a solid, refreshing zombie flick. Whether it’ll be as good is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure: it won’t have as many production hiccups, but did that actually make it a better film by the end…?
