X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art Confirms Angel Appearance

The latest ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ production art posted to social media by director Bryan Singer has confirmed the addition of a new mutant to the bumper cast.

That mutant is Warren Worthington III, otherwise known as Angel, a young man born with feathered wings on his back.

When ‘EastEnders’ star Ben Hardy was confirmed to appear in the feature in February many leapt to the conclusion that he would be playing Angel. While there is no confirmation yet, it’s looking very likely now.

Angel has appeared before in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and was portrayed by an actor of a similar age. With ‘Apocalypse’ taking place in the eighties, a few decades before ‘The Last Stand’, the character’s reappearance here seems to confirm that the new films are completely ignoring Brett Ratner’s trilogy-closer.

In the concept art it appears that Angel is being caged for the amusement of a crowd with an unidentified character presenting him in a packed theatre.

Angel will be one of several new mutants to be re-introduced into the ‘First Class’ prequel timeline which converged with that of the original films in last year’s ‘Days of Future Past’.

Sophie Turner will be portraying Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan is playing Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee is playing Nightcrawler and Alexandra Shipp is playing Storm.

They’ll be joined by Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Nicholas Hoult as Beast and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse.

Hugh Jackman has been rumoured to appear as Wolverine, as has Channing Tatum as Gambit.

The huge sequel will hit cinemas on 19 May 2016.
