X-Men Apocalypse Will 'Alter The Course Of History'

Next year’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will have major ramifications for 20th Century Fox’s superhero universe, writer and producer Simon Kinberg has revealed.

Carrying on from last year’s 'Days of Future Past’, 'Apocalypse’ will continue events that will feed back into other films being developed around like 'Deadpool’ and 'Gambit’.

Speaking to IGN at Star Wars Celebration this weekend, Kinberg said: “The aftermath of 'Apocalypse’ is something that will really alter the course of history in that world in much the same way 'Days of Future Past’ did.

"From 1973 forward the world knew about mutants. A mutant took a football stadium and dropped it on the White House, that’s not the history we were raised on. So instead of ignoring that all the movies that come out after it in the timeline acknowledge it,  embarace it and it becomes part of the complicated reality of X-Men history.”

And not just 'X-Men’ history, Fox are expected to bring their upcoming rebooted 'Fantastic Four’ series into the mix as well. That film, released in August, also has a sequel lined up for 2017.

Throw in the third 'Wolverine’ spin-off and that’s a hefty line-up of films which will finally bring Fox’s cinematic universe to life after a string of just 'X-Men’ and 'Wolverine’ films.

Fox have proven they’re willing to completely write certain films out of continuity, such as 'X-Men: The Last Stand’ and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ so 'Apocalypse’ really could go anywhere.

Kinberg was also asked about speculation that the next 'Wolverine’ movie could be Hugh Jackman’s last as the character. On that he wasn’t saying a thing, except: “No Comment.”

We will however find out what Mystique did with him at the end of 'Days of Future Past’.

And now, the release date. 'Fantastic Four’ is out on 6 August 2015, 'Deadpool’ arrives 12 February 2016, 'X-Men: Apocalypse’ drops on 19 May 2016 and 'Gambit’ is penciled in for 7 October 2016.
