X-Men: Channing Tatum Confirmed as Gambit

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed that Channing Tatum has been cast as Gambit.

Speaking to Total Film at the on the red carpet at ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’s London premiere, Donner was surprisingly open and forthcoming about the casting.

"It is Channing," she said after expressing her desire to also bring Deadpool and X-Force to the big screen.

"He’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal," explained Donner, "just like Remy Lebeau [Gambit’s real name] and he can handle the action, we all know that."
She goes on to say how Tatum “has a good heart”. “I know him personally I did a movie with him. I think he’ll be great for Gambit.”

Gambit has long-been a character X-Men fans have wanted to see on the big screen, but to date he has only appeared once in Wolverine spin-off ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, when he was played by Taylor Kitsch.

In January Donner expressed her desire to make Tatum her new Gambit and in April it was reported that Tatum had taken a meeting with bosses at 20th Century Fox.

Donner didn’t say in what film we might see Tatum’s Gambit. It could be in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, the planned third ‘Wolverine’ spin-off or a spin-off of his own. We’d place our bets on the first option.
'X-Men: Days of Future Past' hits cinemas on 22 May.
