X-Men’s Cable Could Get A Spin-Off Movie

It’s no secret that Deadpool will be getting his own ‘X-Men’ spin-off movie in 2016, but could X-Men cohort Cable also do the same?

Marvel fans have wondered whether his long-time partner Cable would join him on the big screen. Of course, the two have a long history in the comic books, but could we see this play out in the movies? It looks as though creator Rob Liefield thinks that the two should get their own individual films at least, at first.

Appearing at Comikaze 2014, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefield spoke briefly about the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ movie… and even explained whether or not we’ll see Cable make an appearance.

“Following Wolverine, the Donners called me into their office and said, ‘Rob, we want to meet and talk to you about Deadpool, since we’re spinning it off. We know we made some missteps, and we want to get it right’,” he said (via comicbook.com). “So I sat there with a bunch of producers, and we sat for several hours, and we talked about different ideas.”

“For instance, I’ll tell you, first question they said, ‘Rob, does Cable need to be in the Deadpool movie?’ And I said, ‘No, Deadpool deserves his own function and Cable should come in in his own movie.’ And they were like, ‘Ok, because we were thinking about…’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do them both separately. They don’t need to be in the same movie’.”

Of course, fans of the comic books will no doubt be keen to see them together on screen… after all, the highly successful ‘Cable & Deadpool’ gained a particularly devoted following. But does this mean we’ll never see them on screen together?

“We had a long talk, we had some ideas,” said Liefield. “I can’t share them, some of them made it across the finish line.”

Either way, it looks as though Cable is coming… eventually. And Liefield seems certain of that.

“Cable is awesome. And he will…when he appears on screen, we’re all going to nerdgasm, because he’s coming. They can’t hold him back. He’s coming.”

Of course, his long history with Apocalypse and time-travelling nature could easily tie him into the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’. Or perhaps Cable will appear as a result? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it looks as though Nathan Summers is coming.
