9-1-1: Lone Star fans have noticed that the latest season has featured some familiar faces from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel popping up, including Amy Acker and Julie Benz.

But there are a few more cameos that likely went over most people's heads, as pointed out to TVLine by showrunner Tim Minear.

"Brigid Brannagh, who played Wesley's girlfriend in season 2 of Angel, was the mother of the boy who fell through the ice," he said. "And the turtle guy was [Harry Groener], the mayor from Buffy."

Minear previously served as an executive producer on Angel back in the day, although he says that the cameos from his former show weren't on purpose. He also teased that we "might see more" of Buffy's Darla actress Benz as her character Sadie.

Meanwhile, Angel's Winifred Burkle and Illyria star Acker will definitely be staying around for "at least" a few more episodes as Catherine, a potential love interest for Rob Lowe's main character Owen Strand.

Stars from Buffy, Angel and other Joss Whedon shows have been speaking out against the writer and director lately, following initial allegations made against him by Justice League actor Ray Fisher.

Most recently, Charisma Carpenter responded to a Vulture cover story about Whedon, calling him "a former tyrannical narcissistic boss who is still unable to be accountable and just apologise."

Initially addressing Carpenter's allegations to Vulture, Whedon had admitted to being "not mannerly" while adding: "Most of my experiences with Charisma were delightful and charming." Whedon had also denied calling the actress "fat".

A reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was announced in 2018, with Midnight, Texas creator Monica Owusu-Breen serving as showrunner. Perhaps because of the Whedon controversies, or because of other developmental issues, it looks like the reboot is currently in limbo with no signs of hitting our screens any time soon.
