ABC has announced when The Conners will return to the small screen.

The broadcaster recently revealed that the third season of the Roseanne spin-off, which stars Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman, is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 21 at 9pm.

It'll be part of a midweek, sitcom heavy line-up that also includes The Goldbergs season 8 and Black-ish season 7 – both of which kick off in the US on the same night. On that evening, two episodes of the former are expected to air.

The week after, another instalment of The Goldbergs will be shown at 8pm, followed by the season 5 opener for American Housewife.

"We couldn't be more excited to spread some much-needed joy with our Wednesday night comedy lineup," ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said in a statement.

"While we had to be incredibly flexible this year, we are so lucky that we're able to continue our long tradition of making Wednesday night comedy a strong staple of our fall broadcast schedule."

Earlier this month, ABC confirmed that Black-ish is geared up to release a partially animated, election-themed special, which will arrive on October 4, before season 7 begins.

It also divulged that new show Old-ish, another spin-off which follows in the footsteps of Mixed-ish and Grown-ish and centres on Jenifer Lewis' Ruby Johnson and Laurence Fishburne's Earl 'Pops' Johnson, is currently in development.
