Alan Carr says his 'raw' marriage split comedy tour is 'like therapy'

Alan Carr has said his new stand-up tour about his marriage breaking down has been "like therapy" in helping him process the split.

The comedian and Chatty Man host is currently on a summer break from his world comedy tour, Regional Trinket, which sees him open up about his relationship with Paul Drayton coming to an end.

Carr, 46, spoke about bringing his personal life into the tour on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, saying it had been good for him to joke about it.

Laughing with hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins that people always asked him about the split with a head tilt, he said: "My marriage broke down during lockdown, so I wrote the tour and it just didn't make sense when I came out of lockdown, because the marriage had broken down.

"So I was writing fresh, on the go, so it's very personal, very raw, but it's going down really well."

Dates from Carr's tour had been postponed from 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic and resumed this year, but the comedian announced in January 2022 that he had split from Drayton.

GMB host Ray asked: "Does that make it therapeutic as well?"

Carr replied: "It does, because I'm one of those people, they went, 'oh, are you going to cancel the tour?' I'm like, 'no, I need it'.

"I get the impression people just want to laugh and I do see it as therapy, I just get on with it, you know."

He had been in a relationship with Drayton for 10 years before marrying in 2018 in superstar best pal Adele's garden, who officiated the wedding.

The couple split after Drayton's conviction for drink driving and he then entered rehab for alcoholism, with Carr saying he would always be friends with his ex.

A statement released at the time said: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.

"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
