Dr. Alex George 'disappointed' by coronavirus antibodies test result

Former Love Island contestant and practicing A&E doctor Alex George was "disappointed" to learn he did not have antibodies to COVID-19 after undergoing a test.

In a video to his YouTube channel George opened his text result live on camera which said he had tested negative for coronavirus antibodies.

He told the camera: "That's quite a shock. It's not detected. I don't have the antibody. That's a real surprise."

The medic explained he had been on the frontlines "since the start of the pandemic", treated "many" patients and been "exposed to hundreds" as he talked through why he was shocked at the result.

He added: "I’m a bit disappointed, I know that sounds really really odd and a bit ridiculous, of course I don’t want to have caught COVID-19, I'm very aware of how unwell you can be with COVID-19 but also there’s a part of you that thinks I would like to be immune because if I'm immune then hopefully I'm unlikely to be unwell from it again and then of course.

"It would mean I’m less of a risk to loved ones around me."

Sharing a photo of himself wearing Personal Protective Equipment, George continued: "What this is, probably, is a testament that the PPE really does work."

An antibody test is done by taking a blood sample and testing for the presence of antibodies to see if immunity to the virus has developed.

The government's website currently states: "There is no strong evidence yet to suggest that those who have had the virus develop long-lasting immunity which would prevent them from getting the virus again.

"Therefore, the value of antibody tests is currently limited to answering the question of whether someone has had the virus or not, and providing data and a greater understanding on the spread of the virus."
