‘Coronation Street’ star Alexandra Mardell says her character should “stay single”.

The 28-year-old actress thinks Emma Brooker needs to “focus on herself” following failed relationships with the likes of David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd), Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni), and believes that’s the only way she’ll find real love.

She told Inside Soap magazine: “She needs to focus on herself. There’s the idea that, when you’re not looking for love, that’s when you find it. There might even be somebody closer to home she’s not thought about…you never know!”

Alexandra reflected on some of Emma’s past romances and admitted she thinks Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) was her true “Prince Charming” because he wasn’t interested in anyone else.

She said: “It’s a shame that things didn’t work out between Emma and Chesney!

“That was a very sweet relationship – and similarly, Emma and Seb had lots of potential as a couple too.

“There was always another lovely lady waiting in the wings with them, though, which is why I think Curtis was meant to be Emma’s Prince Charming. He was her everything.”

Meanwhile, working on Emma’s doomed wedding to Curtis – which was interrupted when police came to arrest him over claims he’d stolen £100,000 of charity money – has helped Alexandra plan her own nuptials to Joe Parker, because the storyline made her realise what she didn’t want.

She said: “It’s like having the best of both worlds, as Emma’s style and wedding is the opposite to what I would choose

“There was a lot going on at Emma’s wedding – and it gave me a bit of a headache! Although, it was fun to play around with ideas that would never have occurred to me. Emma’s day was exactly how I envisaged it – awful, but fabulous for her!”
