Tributes have been paid to a nine-year-old boy who died after being injured at home.

The boy, named locally as Alfie Scott, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition when emergency crews rushed to his family home in Vashon Drive, Copcut, Droitwich, Worcestershire, on Thursday afternoon.

He died hours later and police say his death is currently being treated as “unexplained”.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 33-year-old woman was detained on suspected child neglect.

Both have been released on police bail until 19 March.

Alfie’s family paid tribute to him, saying they were all “shocked to the core with grief”.

A relative, who did not want to be named, said: “We don’t know at this stage what happened and the police have told us not to say too much.

“We have not seen the mum of the kids since the beginning of lockdown.

“I spoke to one of the kids yesterday after it happened. We're just shocked to the core with grief.”

A man who did not want to be identified described Alfie as ‘a typical, cheeky little lad’.

A friend of the mum who lives nearby said they’d seen the boy being carried out by paramedics.

Detective Inspector Ed Slough, added: “This is a tragic incident that has seen a young boy lose his life and our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.

“We are currently treating the boy’s death as unexplained and are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances.”
