‘American Gods’ confirmed for third series as season two lands in the UK

Neil Gaiman fans must be rubbing their hands in glee. They’ve been counting down the days until the TV adaptation of Good Omens arrives on Amazon Prime (the drop date is May 31 in case you don’t know). And now American Gods has been recommissioned for a third season.

Season 2 of the supernatural series about ancient gods in contemporary America has only just started on Amazon Prime in the UK. But anyone worried about its immediate future can relax.

Starz, who make the series in the US, have announced that not only will American Gods will be back for a new season, but it will have a new showrunner too. TV veteran Charles “Chic” Eglee is coming on board to executive produce and steer the production.

Eglee is a safe pair of hands for the series after executive producing TV hits such as Dexter and The Walking Dead. Original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left after the first series over alleged differences with the studio. Season 2 continued with Neil Gaiman taking a more active role in proceedings.

Neil Gaiman confirmed the Starz news on his Twitter feed yesterday.

And just last week American Gods star Ricky Whittle opened up about the meaning behind the season 2 poster.

Neil Gaiman’s other TV project, Good Omens is adapted from the novel he wrote with Terry Pratchett. It will star David Tennant and Michael Sheen as a demon and an angel, who must work together to try and stop the apocalypse.

New episodes of American Gods season 2 drop on Amazon Prime weekly. Good Omens arrives on the service on May 31.
