Another Life spoilers follow.

The big dogs at Netflix have revealed that sci-fi drama Another Life will be back for season two.

Katee Sackhoff, who stars in the series as Niko and is also a producer, says that the story could run for three seasons at least.

"We had the outline of what the show was going be, but I was in the writers' room and I got to really put what I feel is my fingerprint on the show, which is something that I was really looking forward to," she told Collider.

"So, we know where the show potentially will go for the first three seasons. As an actor, that was new for me. To really be a part of those conversations and to have an opinion was really cool."

She added: "I love this character, and I love the cast and the crew, and I want to do everything in my power to see it come back, for many years."

Sackhoff echoed her love for the series in an interview with Hidden Remote.

"This show is the fastest-paced show I've been a part of and that I've ever watched," she said. "It's a non-stop thrill ride from the very beginning and that, to me, is really awesome. It never loses its heart and humanity and that's what I love about it.

"Selma [Blair]'s (Harper Glass) performance is amazing. You're going to see some aliens which you've never seen before, which is a hard thing to do, so I would be on the lookout for some really great special effects and some really beautiful storylines."

Here's everything you need to know.

Another Life season 2 release date: When will it air?

Production was set to begin in Vancouver this year, but You Know What has been disastrous for pretty much every industry on the planet, including film and TV.

It's not clear how much (if any) of the show was boxed off, so its premiere date is currently up in the air.

Another Life season 2 cast: Who's in it?

One person who won't be returning is the Salvare's pilot Ian (Supergirl's Tyler Hoechlin) after he was killed by Niko (Sackhoff).

Bernie (AJ Rivera) was also forced to kill Sasha (Jake Abel) after he attacked Zayn (JayR Tinaco), so don't expect him to return either.

During her chat with Collider, Sackhoff said: "Nobody is safe on this show. That's one of the things that Aaron, Noreen and I really wanted to hammer home, from the very beginning. Just because you think a crew member is gonna be there the whole time, that's absolutely probably not the case. Just when you fall in love with them, they're probably gonna die."

So brace yourselves for some tragic moments along the way.

Deadline reported that Tongayi Chirisa (Palm Springs, Antebellum) has joined the show as series regular Richard Ncube, "a decorated veteran of many Earth campaigns".

The following have all been cast in recurring roles:

  • Dillon Casey (Remedy) is Seth Gage, head of homeland security. He wants to use the alien response to his "personal advantage".

  • Shannon Chan-Kent (Good Trouble) plays Iara, a hybrid alien-human AI who is viewed suspiciously by both humans and aliens. But all she wants it to "belong".

  • Kurt Yaeger (L.A.’s Finest) is Dillon Conner, a military engineer.

They will all appear alongside Niko (Sackhoff), Erik (Justin Chatwin), Cas (Elizabeth Faith Ludlow), William (Samuel Anderson), and others.

Another Life season 2 plot: What will happen?

For the majority of season one, Another Life followed the two separate lives of Niko travelling through space and her husband Erik, who's left behind to raise their child and lead his own expedition back on Earth. As we jump back and forth between them both, viewers eventually discover that the aliens they encounter aren't quite as friendly as everyone first hoped.

During her interview with Collider, Sackhoff revealed that during shooting she was worried the plot would move too quickly for viewers.

"It was a fear of mine, when we were filming, that it was so fast-paced that people wouldn't have a chance to breathe when they were watching it," she said. "So, that was intentionally done, but it far exceeded my expectations, in the pacing. It's a race car that never lets up."

At the end of season one, media influencer/journalist Harper Glass (Selma Blair) told the people of earth that those aliens, called the Achaia, aren't dangerous at all but peaceful beings who want to be friends.

But her mind isn't her own, but under the control of the Achaia, and we discover that their endgame is pure destruction – we saw evidence of that on Zakir, another planet whose inhabitants had all been killed by the aliens, before Zakir itself was blown up.

The fallout from that will continue in the second chapter, and it's likely we'll see the Salvare and its crew return to earth, on a mission to avoid extermination and spread the word about the Achaia's true intentions.

There's also the fact that Erik (Justin Chatwin) doesn't yet know about the Achaia's threat and has taken his daughter Jana (Lina Renna), who has leukaemia, to them in the hope that they will cure her.

We're not hopeful about that outcome but perhaps they will surprise us.
