The first images of David Hare ’s new political drama, I’m Not Running, have been released.

The National Theatre show will feature Sherlock star Siân Brooke as Pauline Gibson, a doctor who campaigns to save her local hospital. Upon meeting a former boyfriend who works for the Labour Party, played by Alex Hassell, she is forced to consider whether she should run for political office.

The production will be staged in the Lyttelton Theatre, directed by Neil Armfield with a cast that also includes Joshua McGuire, Owen Findlay, Harry Long, Amaka Okafor, Roisin Rae, Liza Sadovy Nadia Williams and Brigid Zengeni.

In an interview with the Standard , Brooke said that meeting MPs as part of researching her role had made her reconsider their work. “I’ve been guilty of thinking politicians are a different breed. But they’re still people, they’re still human beings with emotions,” she said.

The production’s final performance will be broadcast in cinemas around the world as an NT Live screening on January 31.
