Arrow season 8 casts Russian Doll's Charlie Barnett in major new villain role

Arrow season 8 has cast Russian Doll's Charlie Barnett in a major new villain role.

He'll be playing John Diggle Jr (known as J.J.), the Flashpoint-born son of John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson). We'll be introduced to the character in the future as the leader of the Deathstroke Gang, where he faces off against Mia and his adopted brother Connor.

The news of Barnett's casting was announced during Arrrow's final appearance at Comic-Con on Saturday (July 20).

Barnett joins previously announced new series regulars Katherine McNamara, Joseph David-Jones and Ben Lewis as Mia Smoak, Connor Hawke and Oliver Queen’s adopted son, William Clayton, respectively.

Barnett most recently starred alongside Natasha Lyonne in the Netflix series Russian Doll, as well as Tales of the City, the return of the seminal book and television series from Armistead Maupin.

Arrow also recently confirmed (via Entertainment Weekly) that actors Colin Donnell and Josh Segarra will both be back to guest star in the final season.

Connell played the role of Oliver's best friend Tommy Merlyn in the first season, while Segarra portrayed the villainous Adrian Chase/Prometheus in season 5.

Arrow is returning to The CW for its eighth and final season on October 15.
