Ashley Jensen speaks about the heartache of finding husband at suicide inquest

Actress Ashley Jensen has spoken about the heart-breaking moment she discovered her husband’s body, as she appeared at the inquest of his death.

Her husband of 10 years, Terence Beesley, 60, was found dead at the couple’s home at the end of last November by the Extras star, who immediately called the emergency services for medical assistance.

Despite attempts to revive him, Terence was pronounced dead at the scene, as Jensen, 48, relived the ordeal: ‘I was extremely shocked by what happened that night and I will never ever forget it,’ she said. ‘Terry and I had been together for 18 years but I had no idea he was capable of what he did.’

The couple had been married for a decade and had been together for a total of 18 years. Jensen revealed that she’d spoken to her late husband that same afternoon by text.

‘There is no evidence that I have heard to indicate why Mr Beesley took the act that he did but in any event it is not my function to answer the question why Mr Beesley might have taken that act,’ said Coroner Peter Harrowing, after officially ruling the death as a suicide.

He went on to say: ‘Mr Beesley knew that his wife and young child were not at the house and he would not be disturbed… I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Beesley made a deliberate act.’

Jensen had previously released a statement about her ‘devastation’ after her husband’s death.

Terence most recently appeared in Victoria, and has acting credits for The Bill, Casualty, and EastEnders having also had a role in 2016’s London Has Fallen.

The pair first met back in 1999, when they were both featuring in the production of King Lear in Manchester’s Royal Exchange. They got married some 8 years later, in California, which was a quiet affair to say the least. Their only attendee (besides a minister) was their dog Barney who served as their ring-bearer. Two years later they had a son, Francis, is October of 2009.

Jensen is best known for her role in Ricky Gervais sitcom Extras, as well as for her four-year stint in Ugly Betty. Since that, she’s appeared in movies Arthur Christmas, Small Time, and The Lobster, and a 13-episode spell in Rob Delaney-starring comedy series Catastrophe.
