Bake Off winner Candice Brown talks about future after triumph

The Great British Bake Off winner says she's waiting to see what comes her way now the show is over - but she's open to offers.

Viewers saw 31-year-old PE teacher Candice Brown crowned winner of the 2016 series last night after beating fellow bakers Andrew Smyth and Jane Beedle in the final.

"At the moment I'm loving the experience and I'm loving the support and the messages that are coming in and being able to speak about it is amazing," she told Sky News.

"I'll just sort of see if opportunities arise and grab them with both hands - I'm sure there will be plenty of cake involved".

Brown says she still can't articulate how winning has affected her.

"I don't really have the words to express how I feel," she said.

"I just start smiling every time I think about it or start speaking about it, but it's so nice to finally be able to go 'I did it, it was me'. It's lovely, it's a really good feeling".

The series saw twelve bakers given thirty challenges over ten weeks, with the final having a royal theme in celebration of it being the Queen's 90th birthday year.

Brown says they all became "firm friends", and revealed more about the trip she's planning to take with fellow finalist Jane Beedle.

"I love all things vintage and I love France and Jane spent quite a long time in France doing various different bits and pieces," she said.

"We were saying we should go on a little road trip and then she can tell me off for buying massive antique things that will never fit in the car".

The seventh series of GBBO will be the last broadcast on the BBC after Channel 4 signed a deal with the show's producers.

Brown said the change of channel won't stop her from watching.

"I cannot wait. I've always watched it as a fan, and I'll look forward to seeing what happens in the new series".

A former Londoner, Brown now lives in Bedfordshire with her boyfriend Liam.

The celebrity baker laughed off reports in the press that she was engaged after she posted a photo on Instagram wearing a ring on her ring finger.

"I think Liam might have something to say about that - I think if that happened he doesn't know about it," Brown said.

"That's my love of vintage jewellery, wanting to wear various things, and obviously wearing things on a certain finger makes people talk."

"I think it's funny, it's lovely that people are interested and people want to talk about it. The support is just so lovely".

Brown also spoke about the scrutiny and fame that comes with being on the show, which has attracted high audience figures.

An average of 14 million people watched the final, but Brown said being in the spotlight hasn't had too much of an impact.

"To be honest I don't really see it, I walk along and I'm humming to myself…" she explained.

"My other half Liam laughs and says 'oh people are looking' but when people come over and they speak to me they want to have a conversation and they say good luck. And it is just so lovely, it is so, so nice".

Known for her love of bright lipsticks on the programme, Brown promised to wear a different shade each week, and now says she wouldn't rule out creating her own make-up line.

"Who knows, it does give me a good excuse to go out and buy a new one every so often - a girl can never have too many lipsticks".
