Ben Foden has said he hopes Dancing On Ice viewers will see that he is "not a bad guy" after his split from ex-wife Una Healy.

The rubgy player who is currently competing in the ITV show cheated on former Saturdays singer Healy in 2018 just days after she gave birth to their second child, Tadhg, who is now six.

In 2019, he married new wife Jackie Belanoff-Smith after just two weeks of dating and on the day his divorce came through.

Talking about whether he thought the public would vote for him as a contestant in Dancing On Ice, he told OK!: "You just don’t know how you’re perceived. My public image, because of the past three years, has not been the best. Doing shows like this, you try to show to people at home I’m not a bad guy, everyone makes mistakes."

He added that he and Healy, who he also shares daughter Aoife with and who lives in Ireland with their two children, are now "in a good place".

Foden and Belanoff-Smith live in New York with their 18-month-old daughter Farrah, but are in the UK while he competes in Dancing On Ice.

Admitting that he had never heard of a Dancing On Ice "curse" that has often seen celebrity contestants leave their relationships for their skating partners, he said that there was no chance of him having an affair on the show and "it would be exhausting" with the training.

Talking about his quick second marriage, he said: "Obviously, what I did was very selfish in regards to Una. I think it was a shock to her, me getting married so quickly."

He added: "I did owe her an apology for that and should probably have let her know a bit more about what was going on. But over time, I think we’ve gotten better and better."
