BET Awards 2018 winners: Black Panther wins Best Movie and SZA scoops Best New Artist

The 2018 BET Awards took place on Sunday June 24 in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater, hosted by actor and musician Jamie Foxx.

During the awards show, Black Panther won the award for Best Movie, while SZA took home a prize for Best New Artist.

Cardi B picked up the Viewers' Choice Award and Migos was honoured with the award for Best Group.

Some highlights of the evening included paying tribute to Anita Baker with the lifetime achievement award and presenting awards to "everyday heroes" including Waffle House shooter hero James Shaw Jr., Stoneman Douglas High School survivor Anthony Borges, activist Naomi Wadler, journalist Shaun King, high school student Justin Blackman and Mamoudou Gassama, who scaled a building to save a child.

Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Ella Mai and Janelle Monáe delivered memorable performances throughout the evening.

Meek Mill played his highly anticipated new single "Stay Woke" - his first new offering since being released from prison in April.

Musicians DJ Khaled and Kendrick Lamar led the ceremony with the most nominations - six and five, respectively.

Other nominees included Migos and SZA who were tied with four nods.
