Beverly Hills 90210 reboot premiere divides and confuses fans
The long-awaited (additional) reboot of the iconic teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210 has finally aired – and it seems to have gone down like a bit of a lead balloon.
The premise is a bit out of the box, as the series (titled BH90210) is not the straight-up remake of the original show you might expect – but it's a meta look at the lives of the actual actors trying to get a revival up and running, rather than what the characters in the original show are up to now.
Tori Spelling, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering and Gabrielle Carteris are all back, but it's still got fans very confused.
The official synopsis of the show reads: "Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it's time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself.
"What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?"
It seems as though fans weren't in the know about this particular detail though, and took to Twitter to wonder just what in the heck was going on.

Isn’t David Austin Green married to Megan Fox? While I’ve never actually been on an acid trip, I’m assuming this reunion is what one might feel like. #90210reboot

This 90210 reboot format is terrible! What a horrendous concept. I’m 6 minutes in, and already want to turn it off. What a major letdown! #90210reboot #BH90210

Reboot usually means they’re rebooting the SHOW not whatever the hell is happening on #BH90210. pic.twitter.com/0vzITQBBwh

It wasn't all bad, however, as some fans liked the show.
I know this is Twitter so you’re supposed to hate everything, but I’m into whatever this 90210 reboot is supposed to be.

I’m so glad this reboot was done cleverly. Tons of hidden jokes only the hardcore fans would get. #BH90210

Either way, it definitely caused a stir, and really pulled in the viewers – the premiere had a strong 3.8 million total viewers when it premiered on Wednesday (August 7).
BH90210 airs on Fox in the US.
