Kaley Cuoco has announced that she'll be appearing in an upcoming episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, marking her first credited role on a sitcom since The Big Bang Theory ended two years ago.

The actor, who famously played Penny in the long-running comedy series, recently opened up about her involvement in one episode of the Larry David-led show on her Instagram, where she described it as a "bucket list moment" in her career.

It was later confirmed that the Flight Attendant star will be playing Heidi, a doctor who's currently dating Vince Vaughn's Freddy Funkhouser.

"She shows exceeding amounts of patience with Larry," showrunner Jeff Schaffer teased to Entertainment Weekly. "As happens to all things Funkhouser, when Larry gets involved, things get more complicated and then they go south.

"She said she hadn't done a lot of improv before she came in, and she must've been lying. She fit in perfectly – it was like she'd been on the show forever."

Other guest stars set to appear in Curb's season 11, which kicked off on Sunday night (October 24) following an 19-month hiatus, include Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader, Modern Family's Julie Bowen, comedian Patton Oswalt, How I Met Your Mother's Tracey Ullman and Venom: Let There Be Carnage star Woody Harrelson.

In the new instalment's first episode, Elementary's Lucy Liu rocked up as Larry's latest girlfriend. The pair attended a dinner party together, only for Larry to be blamed for spilling red wine over the host's pale-coloured couch when Susie plopped down next to him – an incident that ultimately led Liu to call it quits on their relationship.

Curb Your Enthusiasm airs on HBO in the United States, while Sky Comedy hosts the show in the UK.
