Bill Bailey pays tribute to Sean Lock a year on from his death

Bill Bailey has marked the year anniversary of losing his close friend Sean Lock to cancer by asking fans to donate to a charity appeal in tribute to the late comedian.

Stand-up comic Bailey, 57, used to enjoy hiking with Lock, who died on 16 August, 2021 of lung cancer and has completed a 100-mile walk along one of their favourite sections of the South West Coast Path to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who helped Lock and his family.

He was joined last week on the walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon by 8 Out Of 10 Cats star Lock's family and friends, including fellow comedians Lee Mack and Kevin Eldon.

Marking a year since his friend's passing, Bailey tweeted: "Today it’s a year since we lost the brilliant comedian and my dear friend Sean Lock. I’m thinking about him and his family. Our page is still up if you’d like to donate. http://justgiving.com/walkforseanlock ⁦⁦ @macmillancancer Thanks. Miss you Sean."

The former Strictly Come Dancing winner has raised more than £120,000 for Macmillan from the walk and wrote on his JustGiving page: "This August, it will be one year since we lost the brilliant comedian, and my dear friend Sean Lock to cancer, I will be taking on a 100-mile walk along a section of the South West Coast Path to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provided such wonderful support for Sean and his family.

"On the 7-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, one of our favourite routes, I will be joined by Sean’s family and friends. The walk will be a chance to get together and celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much. Every penny donated will help Macmillan to provide emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer in the UK."

According to the BBC, he said of the walk: "Occasionally you'd find yourself in a place where you remember: 'Oh, we stopped here and took a picture,' or 'I remember when we ate here.'

"Some of those times you'd be confronted by the loss and grief, which comes up unexpectedly.

"But it was uplifting because there were so many friends and his family members with us that it was a great way to celebrate him, and talk about him, and have a laugh, and remember the times that we had with him."
