The Bill may have come to an end nearly a decade ago, but one cast member thinks the show should still be going today.

The police drama ran for 26 years until 2010, and with it coming to streaming this month on UKTV Play, some cast members have reunited to reflect on their memories of the series.

However, while appearing on today's (May 7) This Morning, Trudie Goodwin – who played WPC June Ackland on the series until 2007 – admitted she was "disappointed" it ended.

"I really didn't [want it to go]," she said. "I wasn't there right at the end, I'd left before the end.

"I was so disappointed it finished. I thought there was no reason really why it should have, and that it could have gone on a great deal longer. I think it should still be on now."

During the chat, fellow star Mark Wingett (PC Jim Carver) also spoke about the show's relevance today.

"The style of the show is very different, very much set in the '80s," he said. "But we talked about the lack of funding in police, the coping with the criminality.

"So I think there's a relevance to the modern era. It's like a document of the '80s."

Many of the show's cast members reunited last month via video call, where they answered fan questions and also reflected on their memories of the show.

The Bill: The Early Years – Series 1-5 will be available to stream from May 1 at 10am on UKTV Play, with a further four series to be made available, one a month from June. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
