Black Lightning star Charlbi Dean receives tributes after tragic death

Tributes have been made to actress Charlbi Dean following her sudden death aged 32.

The star famously played the role of Syonide in The CW's Black Lightning, and also appeared in TV series Elementary as well as this year's Cannes Palme d'Or winner Triangle of Sadness.

According to Variety, Dean passed away after a sudden illness on Monday (August 29), though no further details were confirmed.

Among those paying tribute are The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, who shared an Instagram Story of the two together.

"An angel has gone to heaven far too soon. Rest In Peace Charlbi," she wrote, while in a separate post she added: "May heaven be all you ever imagined. Charlbi 1990-2022."

Fans have also shared their tributes to the star, with one writing: "This is very tragic. Charlbi Dean was on the verge of a breakthrough with TRIANGLE OF SADNESS. I was so looking forward to where her career was going to go next."

"So saddened to hear this news," another added. "She was excellent in [Triangle of Sadness] which screened at the @nzff recently and had such an amazing future ahead of her."

The Toronto International Film Festival said in a tweet: "Truly saddened by the news of Charlbi Dean's sudden passing. It has been a gift to bear witness to her incredible talent in TRIANGLE OF SADNESS among many others."

As well as the aforementioned projects, Dean appeared in the Spud movies, Death Race 3: Inferno, Blood in the Water and An Interview with God.

Born in South Africa, she was also a model, and survived a near-fatal car accident in 2008.
