East Lancashire comic Lee Mack has set off on a 100-mile charity walk with Bill Bailey, in honour of Sean Lock who died of cancer.

Lee, who grew up in Blackburn, has joined Bill and others on the trek from Cornwall to Devon.

The aim of the challenge, which started on Wednesday, August 3, is to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provided support for Sean and his family before he died last August.

Speaking about the challenge, Bill said: “On the seven-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon, one of our favourite routes, I will be joined by Sean’s family and friends.

“The walk will be a chance to get together and celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much.

“Every penny donated will help Macmillan to provide emotional, physical and financial support for people living with cancer in the UK.”

Bill said Sean used to love going outdoors and hiking.

He said: “As he used to love the outdoors, and going on hikes, I thought it appropriate to go on a walk with Sean’s family and friends to share stories, to celebrate his life and remember him.

“We’ll be walking a 100 mile section of the South West Coast Path which Sean loved and I’ll be posting updates here to chart our progress, along with photos and videos.

“Maybe see you on the trail and if so, give us a wave, or better yet, a piece of flapjack.”

Bill has set up a JustGiving page for the cause and has raised £76,867 so far.

Lee, who lived in the former Centurion pub off Higher Croft Road when he was a child, paid tribute to Sean at this year’s National Comedy Awards.

The former Everton High School pupil said: “There was one moment when I went to see him where he just said to me – and he didn’t say this in an ‘I want to make you feel better’ or ‘I’m trying to convince myself’ way.

“I just knew it was 100 per cent true and he just said to me: ‘I’ve had a really good life, you know.”
