Blade Runner 2049 star Sylvia Hoeks is one of the stand-outs of Denis Villeneuve's big sequel film, but when it came to finding inspiration for her futuristic character Luv, Hoeks has shared that she looked a little closer at the stars of today.

Yes, a long time before Taylor Swift was killing off the 'old Taylor', Hoeks was using Taylor Swift's life to feed into her Blade Runner character Luv, a replicant who was created by Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) and spends her life constantly under his surveillance.

"I looked at big celebrities, big singers, who are younger girls, like Taylor Swift or Selena Gomez," Sylvia told Bustle.

"[These people] who have big platforms and have to have certain control in their life, because every little second of their day is probably somebody making a picture of them or putting them in the media. So their whole life kind of happens virtually."

But even while Hoeks might have seen a few similarities between Luv's character and the life of the incredibly famous pop stars of today, the actress revealed she relished the chance to play a different kind of female role, rather than the tired old Hollywood clichés.

"This is like the most fun role," she said. "I miss her, I miss Luv.

"What I was grateful for is not having to play the girl next door, the cliche. I felt like I didn't have to be that vulnerable woman that suddenly was very strong, or decided she could go on a different path of life.

"Those roles are around so much."

And while she admits those roles can be fun to play sometimes, she add that it was "so nice" to take on a different kind of role.

"Playing with satire, strength - it strengthened me," she continued. "As an actor and as a human being, it gave me more of a feeling that women get to be there, more and more."

Well, if rumours are to be believed, it looks like Sylvia could be lining up even more complicated female roles soon, as it's emerged the Dutch actress is in talks to star opposite Claire Foy in The Girl in the Spider's Web when it's released next year.

In the meantime, you can catch Luv (and try and pinpoint all the Swift-isms) in Blade Runner 2049, which is in cinemas now.
