Bobby Davro says he is ‘drunk’ on Good Morning Britain while promoting work for substance abuse charity

Bobby Davro said he was “drunk” during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, during a segment about a charitable ball in aid of veterans combatting substance abuse.

The comedian, 61, joined Jim Davidson, 65, on the programme to speak about Davidson's work for Care After Combat, a charity that supports veterans.

Davidson began the interview by discussing his work as chief executive for the charity, before host Susanne Reid asked how Davro was involved.

He quipped: “I’m the dog’s body. I’m drunk, basically, from last night still.”

Fellow host Piers Morgan said:“You’re struggling a bit aren’t you?”

Davro replied: “I’m struggling a little bit, I’ve got to be honest with you,” before saying he could not remember where he went last night.

Davidson, who is teetotal and chief executive of the charity, said the duo had begun their evening at Conservative club, the Carlton Club, before going on a hotel crawl and arriving at Davro’s home.

Davro then added his last drink was about 3am, before Davidson said: “Can we get back to the ball please?”

The duo then discussed the charity event, which they will be appearing at in Nottingham on Saturday, and also the importance of the charity’s work.

But viewers criticised Davro for promoting the charity while claiming he was drunk.

One wrote on Twitter: “Bobby Davro comes on #GMB to talk about supporting our veterans bragging about still being drunk from the night before. Should be so proud of himself.”

Another said: “Davro…turns up half drunk to advertise a care after combat charity for service men with drink and drug problems really!”

Others said they liked the appearance, with one writing: “It's made my morning seeing Jim Davidson and Bobby davro on GMB. Both great all round entertainers. I'm glad they are going to be on the Care after combat autumn ball with there comedy. Good luck with that chaps.”

Another agreed: "Jim Davidson and Bobby Davro we’re just singing your praises on GMB with Piers Morgan, keep up the good work mate."

Care after Combat was founded in 2014 by Simon Weston, Davidson, and Goose Cryer. The charity provides professional assistance for the well-being of veterans and their families.

According to its website, the charity’s mission is to support veterans with alcohol and substance misuse problems and the reduction in numbers of re-offending veterans in the criminal justice system.

The Evening Standard has contacted representatives for Bobby Davro for comment.
