Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter will be reuniting for Amazon's new Audible series The Coldest Case: A Black Book Drama.

Also featuring the voice of Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel, The Coldest Case is the first of five new Audible projects from author James Patterson.

The story, which is a prequel to Patterson's bestseller The Black Book, follows homicide detective Billy Harney, who sends his new partner Kate on an undercover mission to infiltrate a Chicago drug ring.

Audible's official synopsis reads: "When several members of the ring turn up dead, Billy abruptly pulls Kate out, blowing her cover. Kate’s informant inside the gang disappears — along with the ring’s black book.

"As Billy and Kate investigate the ring’s murders, they’ll be pulled into a dangerous web of corrupt politicians, vengeful billionaires, drugged pro-athletes, and violent, dark web conspiracies, all in search of the missing black book."

Paul and Ritter portrayed ill-fated lovers Jesse Pinkman and Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad, with the pair enjoying a short reunion in the HBO show's Netflix spin-off movie El Camino. Since then, Paul has gone on star in the third season of Westworld, while Ritter previously fronted the now cancelled Marvel series Jessica Jones.

On the announcement of the multi-project deal with Audible, Patterson said in a statement: "I’m thrilled to collaborate with Audible on an extraordinary slate of original projects.

"I’m particularly looking forward to building stories specifically for the listening experience — the spin of a tire wheel, the gravel in a villain’s voice, the note of triumph in a detective’s final words as he closes a case — all performed by gifted, top-tier talent."
