Soap fans are in for a treat with this year's British Soap Awards which will be broadcast live for the first time EVER.

Previous years have seen the ceremony pre-recorded, leading to results coming out before it's even been aired on ITV, often up to three or four days in advance. But that won't be the case this year.

An ITV spokesperson has confirmed to Digital Spy that the ceremony will be broadcast live from Manchester, meaning it is shaping up to be the most exciting year yet.

And given recent years have seen the awards become much more unpredictable with Best British Soap wins for Emmerdale and Hollyoaks , we are likely in for a night of shocks later this year.

The awards will again be hosted by This Morning's Phillip Schofield, with last year's ceremony at London's Hackney Empire seeing Emmerdale win Best British Soap for the first time.

When accepting the award on behalf of the soap, John Middleton, who plays Ashley Thomas, paid tribute to the late Shirley Stelfox (Edna Birch), saying that her heart would have burst with pride to see Emmerdale win.

It also scooped four other wins on the night, including Best Actor for Danny Miller and Scene of the Year for Val's Death, tying it on five wins with EastEnders.

Lacey Turner was among the winners for the BBC soap, picking up Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance.
