Yahoo News Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Melissa Fumero calls out whitewashed casting on Canadian remake
Brooklyn Nine-Nine has become so popular with viewers, that it's followed in the footsteps of The Office and got a remake in a different country.
The first trailer for the Quebec version recently dropped, with French-Canadian actors taking over the roles of Jake Peralta, Charles Boyle, Captain Holt and the squad.
However, some fans have been upset that Latina characters Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz are now played by white actresses.
Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy, responded to the trailer on Twitter saying: "Gotta say though after watching this... I'm suddenly curious about the Latina population in Quebec. Just sayin."
She added: "I've been thinking about this a lot, and it basically comes down to this... while I understand the Latina population is v small in Quebec (& how many of them are funny actors?) the Amy n Rosa roles could've gone to ANY BIPOC so it's disappointing to see that missed opportunity.
"Furthermore, I love actors so I do not mean to shame these actresses, it's not their fault... it's up to the decision makers."
Melissa continued: "Also, you guyssssss Amy is not sexy ON PURPOSE. So that bums me out too.
"Lastly, if the show is successful I hope the creators take that opportunity to hire more BIPOC in supporting and guest roles."
Brooklyn Nine-Nine recently scrapped four episodes of its upcoming eighth season following protests after the death of George Floyd.

"We're taking a step back, and the writers are all rethinking how we're going to move forward, as well as the cast," explained Jake Peralta actor Andy Samberg.
"We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about.
"I know that we'll figure it out, but it's definitely a challenge. So we'll see how it goes."
Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs on NBC in the US. E4 aired season 7 in the UK, with seasons 1-6 available on Netflix.
