Bruce Willis: Die Hard actor's Razzie award rescinded following aphasia diagnosis and news of retirement

Satirical awards show The Razzies have taken back the "honour" given to actor Bruce Willis this year, following news that he has been diagnosed with aphasia.

Organisers of the annual Golden Raspberry Awards said it was "not appropriate" to award gongs to those whose medical conditions may have affected their performances.

This year's Razzies had featured a special new category, titled Worst Performance By Bruce Willis In A 2021 Movie, with a shortlist of films he had appeared in.

It comes after the 67-year-old's daughter revealed her father is retiring from acting due to his condition, which she said is "impacting his cognitive abilities".

The Razzies hand out awards for what are deemed to be lowlights of the Hollywood year.

The 2022 edition took place on 26 March, days before news of Willis' retirement was announced.

"After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis," organisers said in a statement.

"If someone's medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie."

Writing on Twitter, the Razzies said it was "truly sorry" to hear the news of Willis' diagnosis.

Organisers also rescinding Razzie for The Shining

Organisers also said they were rescinding their nomination of Shelley Duvall, who was nominated at the first ever Razzies in 1981 for her performance in The Shining.

"We have since discovered that Duvall's performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick's treatment of her throughout the production," they said.

"We would like to take this opportunity to rescind that nomination as well."

Matthew Perry praises Willis as 'coolest man I've met in my entire life'

Stars from across Hollywood paid tribute to Willis' long acting career following the announcement of his retirement this week.

Breaking Bad's Dean Norris, Seth Green and director M Night Shyamalan were among those praising Willis, describing him as a "legend" and an "awesome badass".

Friends star Matthew Perry says the Die Hard actor will "remain in my prayers for a long time", writing on Twitter that Willis was "still the coolest man I've met in my entire life".
