Buster the trampolining dog from John Lewis' Christmas advert dies

Buster the trampolining dog from John Lewis' 2016 Christmas advert has died.

The boxer, who's real name was Biff, played a staring role in the advert, which saw parents surprise their daughter with a trampoline.

The advert depicts the girl's father building the trampoline in the garden on Christmas Eve to a cover of Randy Newman's One Day I'll Fly Away by Vaults.

Buster then watches on in envy as a group of squirrels, foxes, a hedgehog and a badger jump around on the trampoline overnight.

But he finally gets his own moment of joy when he leaps onto the trampoline on Christmas Day, jumping about uncontrollably.

The advert quickly became one of the most popular that year and was last month voted the best John Lewis advert in a poll by Radio Times.

In a tribute to Biff, the dog’s owner Jan Patten said: "Fly high our beautiful, special boy, we shall miss you forever."

She added: "People say, he had a wonderful life with us, but in reality, we had a wonderful life with him."

Tributes to the dog poured in on social media, with one person saying: "A very special boy has sadly passed away today. The Beautiful Biff."

Another added: "Thank you for the joy you gave and memories we hold."

Others called for the advert to be shown again in memory of the dog.

This year’s John Lewis advert has also been a big win with audiences.

In the video, a middle-aged man is shown learning to skateboard so he can have something in common with his new foster daughter.
