Yahoo News Candice Bergen will star in a Murphy Brown revival
Murphy Brown is back to combat the rise of Fake News.
Candice Bergen will be reuniting with writer Diane English to make 13 new episodes of Murphy Brown for CBS, exactly 20 years after the series originally signed off.
A preview from CBS teased: "Murphy Brown returns [20 years later!] to a world of cable news, social media, fake news and a very different political and cultural climate."
Brown won an incredible five Primetime Emmy Awards for playing the eponymous TV presenter between 1988 and 1998, winning a pair of Golden Globes along the way too.
Murphy Brown was ahead of its time in its portrayal of a journalist constantly butting heads with the corporate overlords attempting to interfere with her reporting.
Sadly, the revival won't be able to bring back Murphy's chatshow rival-turned-love interest Jerry Gold, as Emmy Award-winning cast member Jay Thomas sadly passed away last August.
There's no word yet on whether other recurring players, like Paul Reubens, Scott Bakula, Lily Tomlin and Faith Ford, will be a part of this new incarnation of Murphy Brown.
CBS is following in the footsteps of its fellow US networks in reviving one of its all-time classic comedies, in hopes of combating the increasing popularity of streaming and on-demand viewing.
NBC has had huge success with its revival of the groundbreaking sitcom Will & Grace (and already ordered another season), while ABC will be premiering its own reboot of the '90s hit Roseanne this spring.
