Yahoo News Carrie Fisher's sister on their 'intense' relationship
Carrie Fisher's sister appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning and spoke about their complicated sibling relationship.
Joely Fisher came on the show today (December 7) to talk to showbiz guru Ross King, almost a year after her famous sibling passed away.
Opening up about their relationship, she described it as "intense" and "complex".
She said: "I didn't get introduced to her – and I know that sounds odd but in our family that is how it was – but I didn't get introduced to her until after Star Wars came out.
"We were 11 years apart and at that point, I did not have a relationship with her at all."
However, after the "introduction" was made, Joely, together with her sister Tricia, developed a close relationship with Carrie.
"As we grew older, we got invited in," she continued. "It was an intense and complex relationship that was very important to me."
Carrie tragically passed away aged 60 on December 27, 2016, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The heart attack came on four days after it was reported she experienced a "medical emergency" on a transatlantic flight from London to Los Angeles.
"I can't fathom that it's been a year since she passed," Joely added. "The loss... it's like the world is off its axis."
Elsewhere during the interview, Joely was asked about the abuse scandal that has swept Hollywood this year.
Commenting on the bravery it has taken victims to speak out, she said: "It's difficult being a young woman in this business. There are very powerful men out there.
"We don't get to choose when we are harassed or abused. I have experienced it. It's very frightening and disarming."
