Cliff Richard makes BBC Christmas show

Sir Cliff Richard has made a Christmas show with the BBC.

'Cliff at Christmas' will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer and feature the 82-year-old music legend performing some of his Christmas classics, new songs and best loved hits.

He said: "I remember, as though it was yesterday, the three series (each containing 13 shows) that I did for the BBC in the 70’s. I loved every moment of them!

"Now I’m really looking forward to the Christmas show that they have asked me to present, with the aid of some friends, this December 2022.

"My Christmas wish? That you will enjoy our show. Christmas greetings to you all."

The show, which will be broadcast this festive season, will see Cliff chat to Sara Cox at Abbey Road Studios about his incredible 64-year career, which has seen more than 130 of his singles, albums and EPs reach the UK top 20, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

Kate Phillips, BBC’s Director Unscripted Content, said: "We are enormously excited to welcome Sir Cliff Richard to the BBC this Christmas, with his inimitable voice and charm there’s no one better to get everyone into the Christmas spirit."

News of the one-hour show comes after Cliff successfully sued the BBC.

The 'Mistletoe and Wine' hitmaker had his home raided by police in 2014, and it was broadcast live on the BBC.

No charges were ever filed against Cliff following allegations of historical sexual abuse, and he later sued the BBC over their coverage of the raid.

The corporation ended up forking out around £2 million towards his legal costs, after he won a 2018 High Court case.
