Coronation Street revisits Geoff story as Yasmeen has a panic attack

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Yasmeen Metcalfe suffers a panic attack next week as she struggles with bad memories of her abusive marriage.

Yasmeen (Shelley King) is trying to move on with her life following the death of her evil husband Geoff, but the horrors of their time together are continuing to play on her mind.

In upcoming scenes, Yasmeen prepares to move out of Number 6 as the sale to Ray Crosby is still going ahead.

Yasmeen has packed up most of her things, but is given pause for thought when a call from the solicitor reveals that Ray's funds still haven't cleared.

Yasmeen refuses to put up with any nonsense, telling her granddaughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) that she's going nowhere until the money comes through.

As Yasmeen makes it clear that she won't let Ray bully her like Geoff did, Alya is proud that she seems more like her old self again.

Later in the week, however, Yasmeen's progress suffers a setback when she returns to work at Speed Daal.

It's clear that Yasmeen is not herself while she's at the restaurant and she ends up suffering a panic attack at work.

Yasmeen is struggling to get Geoff out of her head and confides in Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) about how she's feeling.

Elaine, who had her own abusive experience with Geoff, advises Yasmeen to start doing things that he would have disapproved of – pointing out that it could be a kind of therapy.

Yasmeen is also pleased when Elaine offers to help her out at Speed Daal. Elaine is handed a week's trial.

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod recently revealed that Yasmeen's friendship with Elaine will form a key part of her ongoing journey.

He told Digital Spy and other media: "The Elaine story will be a bit of a ray of light for Yasmeen. Paula Wilcox is absolutely fantastic. Elaine played a pivotal role in the trial and she will also play a pivotal role in Yasmeen's recovery.

"They'll have an 'odd couple' friendship, and thankfully for Yasmeen it will be quite humorous in places. They're survivors of Geoff and trying to find their way as a double act."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, January 18 and Wednesday, January 20 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
