Coronation Street's Abi Webster makes a heartbreaking decision over her baby

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's latest episode was one full of difficult, heartbreaking decisions.

On Sunday (March 6), the soap had ended with Abi Webster (Sally Carman) making the shocking discovery that she was pregnant and experiencing intense contractions after she had been abandoned at the side of the road by Dean Turnbull.

And Abi's journey continued to be a difficult one from there.

Monday's (March 7) show began with her in a state of utter terror as she went into labour alone in the middle of nowhere. Still a fighter, she managed to convince a passing driver to take her to a nearby hospital.

There, she was forced to admit she had taken cocaine and alcohol prior to going into labour by her nurse for the baby to have all the help it might need. When asked for her name, full of shame and suspicious of the nurse's motives, she made the split-second decision to offer up the false alias of Jennifer Smith in fear of being reported.

Alone and refusing to call anyone for support, and after a few heart-stopping seconds where the baby's life seemed uncertain, Abi gave birth to a baby boy.

She was later approached by her midwife with some more bad news.

The baby could have been affected by her use of drugs and alcohol.

"Aside for being very premature, he's got breathing issues and we're not sure how he's going to be affected by the drugs and alcohol you've been using," the midwife declared before leaving to get a doctor.

The next time she returned to the room, Abi was nowhere to be seen.

Abi was also left homeless after a visit from Debbie – who had been informed by Kev that she had been still using – ended with a verbal attack and her being kicked out.

However, it appeared the hospital might be handing over the CCTV footage to the press in an attempt to find the fleeing mother.

However, the CCTV proved to be quite useless so far as even Aggie admitted that the woman's features were difficult to discern.

Earlier in the episode, Aggie had declared "some women aren't meant to be mothers". Will she understand Abi's decision if she finds out?

The episode ended with Abi once again alone, emotional and with a drink in hand.

Where does she go from here?
