Doctor Who star Sophia Myles has shared a moving photo that shows the final moments she spent with her father, Peter, after he died from complications caused by coronavirus.

The actor, who appeared as Madame de Pompadour in the Doctor Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace", wrote: “Yesterday I went on a journey to see my father. This is the harsh reality of the Coronavirus.”

In the photo, Myles is seen wearing a protective apron, mask and gloves as she places a hand on her father’s head.

She later posted: “RIP Peter Myles. My dear Dad died only a few hours ago. It was the Corona Virus that finally took him.”

Myles, who also appeared in Underworld, Transformers and the CBS drama Moonlight, revealed she had taken a film crew with her to inform people about the devastating reality of Covid-19, as part of a documentary.

In 2018, Myles disclosed that her father had been diagnosed with the neurological disease Parkinson's.

On 15 March 2020, she said that her father had caught coronavirus while battling other underlying health conditions.

She has been posting regular updates about the retired Church of England vicar, and sharing photographs of him in hospital.

In an earlier video, she had explained: “Just wanted to give you guys an update on my father. He is really not well. Really, really not well.

“I took a news crew from CBS with me to document the day yesterday when I went to see him which is going to be broadcast on Monday, I believe, so I will keep everyone posted and send you a link when that comes out.

"Anyway, sending lots of love. Please, please, please all stay safe.”
