Corrie star's throwback pic sparks fan pleas for past character to return

Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor has shared a nostalgic throwback photo of herself with her former co-star.

Georgia currently plays Toyah Battersby in the ITV soap, who is in a relationship with solicitor Imran Habeeb. However, Toyah used to date 'eco-warrior' Spider Nugent back in 1999, and the photo Georgia shared on Instagram showed a cute embrace between Toyah and Spider.

Taylor captioned it, "Thanks to @jondew1 for sharing this belter of a #tbt from 1999! I mean, eyebrows are for losers, right?" referring to the skinny eyebrows she had, a common trend in the 90s.

Fans were calling for Spider to return to the street, with comments ranging from "Would love Martin [Hancock] to return as Spider and watch Toyah's reaction" to the simple yet clear "Bring back Spider".

Another fan wrote, "I wish Spider would return!"

A third commented, "Spider come back to the street, we miss you."

Fellow Coronation Street stars were also pleased to see the picture, with Georgia's former co-star Catherine Tyldesley, who played Eva Price, commenting "This is everything."

On the show, Spider relocated to Peru in 2003 and hasn't been back since. In real life, Hancock went on to star in Steve Coogan’s film 24 Hour Party People and Defiance alongside Daniel Craig.

Georgia herself would be open to a return of Spider's character, telling Inside Soap that it would be "interesting" to see what he had been up to since he left.

She said, "I loved working with Martin Hancock, who played Spider. He and Toyah split up off screen and they haven't seen each other in about 15 years, so it would be interesting to see what Toyah's first love is up to now."

Hancock has previously said he'd be open to returning to the show, telling The Daily Express in 2014: "I may go back to Coronation Street one day. Who knows when Spider Nugent might return?"
