It's never happened before but fingers are crossed today that an IW act could have a UK number one album.

Wet Leg's debut album hit the shops last week and all indications in the music industry are that it will be top of the pops when the latest album charts are announced just after 4pm today (Friday).

The album is called Wet Leg, a title announced in a full page advert in the County Press last year.

Since unleashing their first single in June last year, things have moved at lightning speed for Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers.

From selling out all their live shows in minutes and performing on US TV three times, they have been crowned number two in BBC’s Sound of 2022 and racked up 40 million global streams and nine million YouTube views.

They have also been touted, most recently, by Dave Grohl, Lorde, Simon Le Bon and Jack White.

New single UR Mum is Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record In The World at BBC Radio 1.

The album is album of the week at The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The i, The Observer and more, with NME also putting them on their front cover and giving the album a five-star review.

And if it couldn't get any bigger, the promotion for the album saw them plastered all over a massive billboard in New York's Times Square.
