Couple end up in A&E after attempt to recreate Dirty Dancing lift for wedding goes seriously wrong

A loved-up couple ended up in A&E after they attempted to perform the iconic lift from Dirty Dancing ahead of their wedding.

Bride-to-be Sharon Price and fiancee Andy were left unconscious after their attempt to create the famous sequence in a beer garden went awry.

The pair, who have watched the Patrick Swayze moment more than 30 times, thought it would be funny if they gave it a practice ahead of their big day.

But things went seriously wrong when they collided – with Andy, 51, knocked out and cold and the pair both ending up sprawled on the floor.

Sharon, 52, was also bruised and the pair were rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.

At first, their family thought they were joking – but they quickly dialled 999.

‘I have always loved Dirty Dancing and it is one of my all time favourite films’, Sharon explained.

‘We were in the beer garden and my niece and nephew were messing around trying to do the lift. So I looked at Andy and suggested that we have it as our first dance at our wedding.

‘We immediately set about trying to recreate that iconic moment. But it’s fair to say it didn’t go to plan. When I ran at Andy he tried to lift me, but we just collided.

‘At first our family thought we were just messing about but they soon realised we had actually really hurt ourselves.’

After the incident, Andy was loaded into an ambulance where paramedics cut off his t shirt and switched on the blue lights as they rushed him to Bristol’s Southmead Hospital.

Sharon added: ‘The paramedics were pretty worried about Andy and cut his t shirt off and blue-lighted him up to Southmead Hospital.

‘We are OK now but Andy has a bruised back and neck and my back still hurts.’

The divorcee couple, who have been together for 18 months, met at work at Seetru Engineering in Bristol, where Sharon assembles safety valves and Andy works on the production line.

They are due to tie the knot in October next year but perhaps unsurprisingly, are now planning for a slower wedding.

‘I think we’re going to go for a slow one for our first dance,’ said Sharon. ‘It probably won’t be ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life.’

Sharon’s son Ryan, 28, and her grandson Riley, six, will give her away when she walks down the aisle in an ivory dress, watched by her daughter Lauren, 22, and one-year-old granddaughter, Bella.

Andy also has three adult children and a granddaughter, Isla, 18 months.

Since their escapades on Saturday the jokes had been non-stop from family and friends.

Sharon added: “It’s been ‘nobody put’s baby in the corner’ ever since – we’ve had it all.”
