COVID-19: 43 new cases in Singapore, highest total since 30 Jan

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 43 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore on Friday (2 April), taking the country's total case count to 60,450.

It is the highest daily total since 58 new cases were reported on 30 January.

All cases are imported and had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Amongst the new cases, 41 are asymptomatic, while two were symptomatic.

The breakdown of the cases is as follows: one is a Singaporean and five are Singapore permanent residents who returned from Germany, India and the UK; three are student's pass holders who arrived from India and Myanmar; three are work pass holders who arrived from India and the Philippines; 25 are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom five are foreign domestic workers; and six are short-term visit pass holders.

Of the latter group, five arrived from India, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea for work projects in Singapore and one arrived from Indonesia to visit her family members who are Singapore permanent residents.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from one case in the week before to two cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from one case in the week before to two cases in the past week.

99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With 15 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Friday, 60,176 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 40 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while one of them is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 204 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from the 30 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Amongst the 185 confirmed cases reported from 27 March to 2 April, 61 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 90 have tested negative, and 34 serology test results are pending.
