Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Cruise lead star-studded Queen's Platinum Jubilee performance

Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Cruise are set to lead an all-star cast in celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee which will see historical royal scenes acted out live from Windsor Castle.

The Hollywood A-listers are just two of a huge cast which will also include Damian Lewis, Omid Djalili, Ant and Dec and Dame Joan Collins.

Airing live on ITV from the grounds of Windsor Castle on 15 May, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration will pay tribute to the monarch's 70 years of service and includes a theatrical event with 1,300 performers and 500 horses taking on four acts.

Taking viewers on a historical journey from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I up to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, it stars Mirren, who previously played Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, as and covers a number of key royal moments.

Each of the four acts will get a celebrity host, who have been named as Cruise, Lewis, Adjoa Andoh and Alan Titchmarsh.

Meanwhile, Djalili has been cast as The Herald, a narrator who will guide viewers through the scenes included in the show which takes place over four nights from 12 May, but broadcasts live on TV on 15 May.

Presenters of the broadcast have been announced as This Morning star Phillip Schofield and newsreader Julie Etchingham, while other star names signed up for the event include Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sir Mo Farah, Dame Maureen Lipman, Sir David Jason, Dame Kelly Holmes, Moira Stuart and Sir Trevor McDonald.

Music is provided by Keala Settle, Gregory Porter, Katherine Jenkins, the National Symphony Orchestra and military service personnel.

The celebration of the Queen's reign will of course include horse displays, too, with equestrian performances from Azerbaijan, India, Oman, France, Norway, Switzerland and Trinidad and Tobago all planned.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of ITV entertainment commissioning, said: "We’re thrilled to be broadcasting the first televised event for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here on ITV.

"To mark this momentous occasion, we’ll be bringing the nation a celebratory, star-studded show, complete with show-stopping performances and an epic journey through history, told by some of the most well-renowned and respected names in film and television."

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration airs on 15 May on ITV.
