Dame Sheila Hancock: I was sacked from Celebrity Gogglebox
Dame Sheila Hancock claims she was sacked from 'Celebrity Gogglebox'.
The 89-year-old actress left the Channel 4 show after just one series in 2019, despite entertaining fans of the programme with her no-nonsense views and her on-screen chemistry with her pal Gyles Brandreth, and the star believes she may have paid the price for being "too rude".
Reflecting on her time on the show, Sheila shared: "I loved every minute of it. I got the sack from that actually.
"They didn’t ask me back for some reason - I suppose because I was too rude about some of the things I saw."
The actress also confessed to being caught off-guard by some of the content she watched for the show.
She told BBC Radio 2: “I, honest to God, had not seen most of the programmes they showed us - like, all those where everyone was showing off their private parts.
"And I was deeply shocked, quite genuinely overwhelmed by the whole thing."
Gyles previously admitted that watching 'Naked Attraction' alongside Sheila was "hilarious".
The 74-year-old broadcaster has also starred on 'Celebrity Gogglebox' alongside Dame Maureen Lipman and he relished that experience, too.
He shared: "I did it first with Sheila Hancock and they made her a dame. I then did it with Maureen Lipman and they made her a dame.
"My wife says the Queen is rewarding them for being locked in my company.
"Sheila was amazing. Sitting there watching 'Naked Attraction' with an 89-year-old was hilarious. And Maureen now comes round to watch the telly, even when we’re not filming it."
