Danny Dyer lands Netflix gameshow in first big post-EastEnders role

Danny Dyer has signed up to host a Netflix gameshow in his first big role since announcing he would be quitting EastEnders.

The TV and film hard man already presents quiz The Wall for BBC One, but will be branching out into the streaming service with new show Cheat.

He'll be co-hosting with comedian and TV presenter Ellie Taylor and the show is due to land on Netflix in 2023.

Dyer has played Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders since 2013, but the BBC soap confirmed in January that he would be leaving to try out new roles.

He is due to stay on screen until his contract comes to an end later this year, with his exit storyline still under speculation.

Cheat has been described by Netflix as a quiz that "rewards both brains and blaggers" where contestants try to reach a £50,000 jackpot by cheating their way to the end if they don't know the answer - but must avoid getting caught.

Dyer said: "This is a great new series and there’s no quiz show better suited for me; expect enormous wins, loads of slippery people cheating and banter with the one and only, Ellie Taylor."

Taylor added: "I’m so excited to join Cheat and the Netflix family. Cheat has all the elements I want in a quiz show; great questions, unashamed cheating and Danny Dyer calling me 'Treacle' at least once per episode. I can't wait to get started!"

Dyer's film roles have included The Football Factory, Mean Machine and Adulthood, before he landed his starring EastEnders role.

He also famously surprised Who Do You Think You Are? viewers with his discovery that he was a direct descendent of Edward III, with other ancestors including Thomas Cromwell, William the Conqueror and Charlemagne.
