Dawn French has revealed that while her partnership with Jennifer Saunders is still going strong, their double-act sketch show will not be returning.

The iconic comedy French and Saunders kicked off in 1987 and ran for an impressive 30 years, including six series and several Christmas specials, but the Vicar of Dibley star said it's "done".

"I'm done with that," she explained on Sarah O'Connell's YouTube show. "Done with the double act part of it – not done with her. There's lots of things I'd love to do with her, but doing sketches on telly, I think we've had our moment with it."

She admitted, however, that Saunders is "trying to persuade me to do some more".

French also opened up about the show finishing and how they marked the end of their tour. "We both have the same tattoo, which we got on the very last night of doing our double act," she recalled.

"We were on tour in Auckland in New Zealand, and we knew we wouldn't be touring our double act again. I mean, you know, here I am saying that and that was lots of years ago."

While the pair's BBC show has been parked (at least for now), they are still working together on their Audible Original podcast Titting About. It came back for its second season in September.

On the podcast, the long-time friends talk uncensored about a range of topics, including their careers and memories together. The second series even treated fans to some unaired French and Saunders sketches.

French and Saunders will also both star in upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile, alongside Kenneth Branagh, Russell Brand, Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie and Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer.

The mystery thriller has been rescheduled several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic and allegations against Armie Hammer. The film is now expected to hit UK cinemas on February 11, 2022.
